When it is all landing together
Overwhelmed by everything.
When everything feels overwhelming at once, no single item is the problem. Your attention is spread across all of them and cannot settle. Grounding narrows it to the room, which is always smaller than everything.
Your 2-minute fix
A short 5-4-3-2-1 pass through your senses, which pulls attention out of the pile and back into the room.

Overwhelmed by everything
There is a particular quality to this kind of overwhelm. It is not that one thing is unbearable, it is that work, money, family, health and the general state of the world are all present in your mind at the same time, none of them resolved. Nothing on that list can be answered in the next five minutes, which is exactly why the mind keeps circling it.
Grounding does not solve any of it, and it is not pretending to. What it does is interrupt the circling by giving your attention something concrete and immediate to do. Five things you can see. Four you can touch. The room is a much smaller problem than everything, and it is the only one available to you right now.
This is one of five situations on the overwhelm triage picker. The two-minute fix here is grounding, which is free, needs no account, and stores nothing. If this is not quite your situation, the others are i can't start, work is too much, i don't know where to start, and too much to do.
Common questions
Why do I feel overwhelmed by everything at once?
Usually because the load has been high for longer than you noticed and the recovery has been thin. Poor sleep, no real breaks and a long stretch without a proper pause all lower the point at which ordinary demands start to feel like too much.
How do I calm down when everything feels like too much?
Narrow your attention to something physically present. Naming what you can see, touch and hear gives a circling mind a concrete task and interrupts the loop. It does not fix the underlying list, but it makes the next few minutes usable.
Is feeling overwhelmed by everything a sign of burnout?
It can be one signal, but a single overwhelmed stretch is not burnout on its own. Burnout describes a sustained pattern of exhaustion, cynicism and reduced capacity over months. If that pattern sounds familiar, it is worth raising with a professional.
This is a self-guided exercise for everyday overwhelm, not treatment. If the feeling has lasted for weeks, or comes with panic, hopelessness or thoughts of harming yourself, please talk to a doctor or a crisis line rather than working through it alone.
