What is the Human Behaviour Lab?
The Human Behaviour Lab isn't a physical place. It's a way of looking at the things we all experience — the anxiety before something important, the loop of thoughts that won't quiet down, the flatness of a low week, the difficulty of making a decision you know you have to make.
It's a space for honest writing about those experiences. Not cheerful. Not clinical. Just clear, grounded, and as useful as we can make it.
Why this exists
Solace was built on a simple observation: most of the moments where people struggle with how they think and feel happen in ordinary life — not in a therapist's office, not in a crisis, but in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon when something feels heavier than it should.
The tools on Solace were designed for those moments. Specific, small, immediately usable. A breathing technique when you need to calm down. A structured way to release a thought that won't leave. A way to track how you've been feeling so you can actually see the pattern.
The Lab is the companion to those tools. It's where we write about the ideas behind them — the research, the mechanisms, the honest exploration of what helps and why.
What you'll find here
The Lab is organised around three questions. How do I calm my body when it won't settle? How do I clear my mind when it won't stop? How do I notice what's good when everything feels heavy?
Each piece of writing tries to answer one of those questions honestly — with the science where it's relevant, and without the science where it isn't. We're not interested in wellness content. We're interested in what actually works.
A note on what this isn't
The Lab isn't therapy. It isn't medical advice. It isn't a substitute for professional support when that's what's needed.
What it is: an honest attempt to understand human behaviour — including your own — a little better. Because understanding what's happening is usually the first step toward being able to do something about it.
If something here helps, we're glad. If something prompts you to try one of the tools, even better. And if something makes you think differently about how you work, that's exactly what we're here for.
Welcome to the Lab.
